Frequently Asked Questions

Why Individual Therapy?

Most people struggle with emotional difficulties at some time. Getting therapy helps to reduce the length of time that you suffer with these problems. Also, many people find that as they mature, they identify certain problematic relationship patterns with their family, coworkers, friends and partners. Therapy can help you forge new ways of relating to others and to yourself.

Why Couples Therapy?

All couples run into relationship troubles at times. Sometimes these troubles become entrenched or seem insoluble. Also, despite their love, living with partners’ differences is challenging. At these times, it is wise to seek couples therapy. Treatment will help the couple learn to communicate more effectively and solve problems collaboratively.

Why Family Therapy?

All families have issues that affect the whole family.  These issues may seem insoluble.  Even though the family loves each other, it may be a challenge to communicate or cope with these issues alone.  Therapy can help the family communicate more effectively and cope with such issues.

Why Online Therapy?

Many people have decided that online therapy is a great way to get the help they are looking for without having to travel.  Also many people find it nice to be anonymous.  Anonymity helps many people to feel more comfortable to seek help and to share their issues with a professional.

But Does Therapy Work?

Yes. Many decades of scientific research has proven definitively that therapy is effective in treating emotional difficulties of all types.

Regular Weekly Sessions Are Essential At First.  Why Is That?

·    I need to get oriented to you and your difficulties. If we do not   see each other weekly at first, this is may delay the process.

·        People tend to lose track of their plans if their sessions are spaced too far apart at first.

·        Weekly sessions provide the fastest relief of symptoms, which is important early in therapy.

Can I Work It Out Alone?

Perhaps you can. However, if your difficulties have gone on for more than a month or two, it is likely that you will feel better much faster with therapy. Also, therapy reduces the chances of your emotional problems becoming long-lasting.

What About Medications?

For most people, medications are a safe and effective treatment. Research has shown that medications and therapy are equally effective for many common problems, so choose which is a better fit for you. However, research has also shown that therapy, along with medication, will give you a greater and longer lasting result.

Insurance And Payment

Insurance

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield:  I am a preferred provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS).  If you have this health insurance program, I will be happy to verify your benefits and determine what your costs are for treatment.  You would only be responsible for the deductible or co-payment.  I will bill your insurance carrier for their share of your therapy bill.  You may or may not have an annual limit on the number of therapy sessions.  I will contact BCBS to find out this information for you.
  • I will be accepting other forms of insurance soon.  Please check again at a later time or call my office for more information.

Other Payment Options

·         Reduced Fees: For lower income individuals, please call for more information.  Other reduced fee options for treatment are available on the Resource Link page of this web site.

·         Flex Plan or Medical Savings Plan: If your employer has a tax-free medical savings plan, it is likely that this plan can reimburse you for any therapy bills that you pay out-of-pocket (up to the amount that you have put in the plan for the fiscal year). Check with your employer for details.

·         Out-of-Pocket Payment: Some people prefer the added privacy of paying for therapy out-of-pocket, even if they have insurance. Of course, I keep personal information that is supplied to insurance carriers to a minimum, but they generally have the right to inspect your treatment records (although this is very rarely done). My out-of-pocket fees are as follows:
